New development

Oh, fall break. What are we going to do with you... This past weekend was fall break. I thank God for the extra 24 hours we had off. It's amazing how much more we could do because of the extra day. A group of 8 of us went to Chicago (and Naperville) for the weekend. Thursday we left after classes and Rachel, Luke, Phil, Jenna and I stopped for dinner and a soak at Phil's house in the country. We rode horses and had amazing lasagna. The picture is of luke riding a horse, not of us eating lasagna.

We left there and went to Jenny's house in cozy Naperville. Friday morning we got up as we pleased and hopped on the 12:30 train for Chicago. Once downtown we walked around and hit up some local shops. These are shops you really can't get anywhere else folks. Old Navy... Gap. cripes, it made the whole trip worth it. But seriously, I enjoyed it. I got to eat with Larry, and it was great catching up with him.

Saturday had no plans in store until at about 11:30 when Jenny said that she was going to go to Target with her mom. All of the other girls wanted to go as well. Of course, why not? They hit up Target, Gap and Old Navy! Phil Luke and I were left high and dry. We tried to think if our relative upset-ness was justified, and we really couldn't find any Biblical foundation for being upset. But there is no doubt the act was shady. And I digress. I am continually amazed at the differences between girls and guys. Yeah, shopping and football... everyone knows about those differences, but here's one that was interesting for me to explore mentally this weekend. What would have happened if the guys would have, let's say, wanted to play basketball two days in a row. I really think the girls would have shaken it off. Us guys, on the other hand took it fairly personally. Maybe a little too personally. I believe the girls would have just brushed their shoulders off and had a good time... (this is where I start to make my point) I think girls are more self sufficient than guys are. Now, hear me out. Maybe it is just my group of friends, but it seems like the guys ALWAYS make the plans and make sure the girls are included. Even money says if the girls make the plan there's a chance guys are not involved. I've been on the bad end of many a girls weekend/night/party/movie/talk/etc. As we were stewing about how we got a raw deal, we kinda realized that we as guys make a good effort, it is seldom reciprocated. This is all fine with me if that's the way it's "supposed" to be with the guys pursuing the girls (relationally or otherwise), but if not, I feel like we are getting a raw deal. It's our own fault too. We have trained them into believing we will be there all the time. We have visited people at their workplace, we have watched every colts game at their house, we eat dinner over there atleast once a week. So, the question persists... "would we be friends still if the guys didn't put forth an effort?" Well, only time will tell. As of now, it's not looking all sorts of promising.

Cold Shoulder

(This is the outline for a speech I am going to give at 1:15. (Some names have been changed to protect the guilty(and innocent (and others.))))

I. Introduction
A. Have you ever expected attention from someone and instead gotten nothing?
B. The Cold Shoulder award goes to the person who embodies that spirit the best.
C. The person who receives this award is the person who over the past year has been brushed off, shot down, left alone, and left hanging the most.

II. Body
A. The first testimony comes from a girl we’ll call Krazy in Kansas.
1. I was supposed to go to prom with this guy. I considered us to be friends. He is a fun guy, but no one really thought he was “cool.” So when it came time to prom night and he was supposed to pick me up I was nowhere to be found. I ran off to watch monster trucks with some guy I met earlier that week. I felt bad about it, but can you imagine what people would have said about me if I would have shown up to prom with him?
2. Ouch, that hurts, but I have a feeling that wasn’t the worst of it.

B. The second testimony comes from Flakey in Florida.
1. Yeah, he’s a nice guy, but there’s something about him. He’s great. I might even say he’s “potential,” but I’m just nervous about him. We were about to go on our fourth date and for some reason I got spooked. I don’t know why. I don’t think it was anything he did. I just didn’t want to be around him any more. If he reads this, please tell him I’m sorry and it’s not him, it’s me.
2. Wow, she it Flakey. Let’s see who’s up next.

C. The final testimony, and the one I feel clinched the award for this nominee, comes from Player in Pennsylvania.
1. I really had no good intentions when I met him. He seemed like he was nice and most likely a push over. I guess what I did was a little… underhanded. It’s not my fault, if a guy asks me out and I want to go, I’ll go. I obviously didn’t want to go with HIM, but who would turn down a dinner at Outback Steak House? Then the next time he had front row tickets to WWF, and I loved Hulk Hogan. And the last date we went on was to the last showing of the musical Cats. It was a once in a life time experience. Oh, and about that rumor that I told him I love him, it’s completely false. Well, I did say the words, “I love you,” but I thought it was understood I was talking about his shirt.
2. Man –oh – man, that one was low.

III. Conclusion
A. As you can see this person has been brushed off with the best of them.
B. You have heard these powerful testimonials from three girls in all different parts of the country that have left our nominee hanging out to dry.
C. It is my pleasure to introduce to you, the winner of the Cold Shoulder award for 2005...

Thursday

Today's thursday... It has been pretty good, I guess. Tried to get up at 9... no dice. Finally made it out of bed around 10. Got some studying in and scrambled through a "quest" (combinixture of test and quiz (maybe also throwing the word question in there.)) Got out of that early. So I just bumed around until 1:40 and then it was business ethics... waste of time. I've been tired all day. Hopefully Adam and I will be able to put together something worth listening to tonight. But for now...

Book em'

So what's the deal folks?! Every time I turn around I hear someone talking about their, "facebook" site. I had never heard the term before about a month ago, and I would bet 90% of the campus hadn't heard the words muttered before this year. Now probably half of the school is just going nuts about what so-and-so left on my message board, or "did you see the new group I created?" I mean, "I wear flip flops and drink coffee." Get serious "the woo." I mean, we live on a campus that has a grand total of what 3 acres? Go across the hall and see what the person looks like. I've gotten pretty sick of the aol craze at times, but this one just rubs me the wrong way for some reason. Hopefully it's like indwes.com and it lasts for around a semester then people forget about it.

I can understand how someone might want to look up friends from highschool and see what they are doing with them selves, but I know many of you iwuers are checking up on your roomates and girl/boyfriends. It all seems kind of rediculous. Call me old fashioned... No, seriously, call me it.

Oh, and if you're wondering why I have that picture up and I'm slamming facebook... It really is just a coincidence. There was no premeditation.

I'm sorry if you thought you were going to laugh when you read this... if you want to laugh I would suggest checking out http://cawren.blogspot.com
