I pretty much have free reign to put whatever I want. I'll write about work, life, the world, my friends, sports, finances or something funny that happens.

Funny thing from Proverbs
25 Ants are creatures of little strength,
yet they store up their food in the summer;
yet they store up their food in the summer;
26 coneys [d] are creatures of little power,
yet they make their home in the crags;
27 locusts have no king,
yet they advance together in ranks;
28 a lizard can be caught with the hand,
yet it is found in kings' palaces.
If you do not see the humor, I'm sorry. I just laugh.

Christmas Story
Today was the 5th of December. We decided to bring in the Christmas season with a couple stories from David Sedaris. If you know who he is, you'll understand this a bit better. He is a writer who often writes essays that are... funny. The two we read today I thought were absolutely hysterical. One was entitled Christmas Means Giving, and the other was Six to Eight Black Men. The first was a great satyr on the perception of giving. You need to read it some time. The other was just funny about the differences in different countries and cultures. I highly recommend both of them, if you have the time and inclination. But the party was a success and I think most people enjoyed themselves. The following was the email that invited most of the people that came...
Hello friends,
you have just been cordially invited to attend the first ever Christmas Yuletide Reading held at Sawyer House. It will be held Tuesday evening @ 11:00. We will be reading a soon to be classic piece of xmas literature and maybe singing a song or two. Please wear your most festive Christmas/Hanaukah/Kwanza/Navidad apparel to help kickoff a glorious holiday season. we will be trying our best to provide some sort of beverage (hopefully hot chocolate, but probably just water) as well as a tree to decorate (bring ornaments if you can (homemade ones are the best (best one wins a prize))) Come prepared to celebrate enthusiastically, listen attentively, and leave fairly promptly (its crunch week after all). I hope to see you all there with bells on, figuratively of course but literally would also be acceptable.
most sincerely,
marc "not under the illusion that finals matter more than Christmas memories" buwalda

The Power should go out more often.
Yesterday was Friday the 1st. It was a cold day here in Marion, IN. The wind was blowing like crazy. I guess there were gusts up to 40mph. It made getting around a challenge. When I was walking back to my house after class at about 11 I was walking under a tree and a branch fell. It happened to land on pudge's car, which was funny.
I guess there were other branches falling too because the power went out on our side of campus. The guys were planning on going back for a little FIFA 98 but couldn't play because there was no power. We were left to resort to the days of discussion. I am not sure how it was brought up, but 6 of us sat in the study room and discussed very deep subjects. The content of the discussion was is not important to this blog, but the fact that it was taking place was the big part. I know this intellectually stimulating and thought provoking time would have never happened if we could have relied on the N64. This is why I propose the power should go off more often.

Editorial
Tons of controversy here at the WU. The Sojourn printed an editorial that called for the abolition of campus groups including IWU Democrats, IWU Libertarians, and Acting on AIDS. He claims that IWU Dems and Libs do not promote the ideals of Christianity. For some reason he said nothing about IWU Republicans. I wonder what the Bible would say about a war "on terror" that might have been influenced by a certain oil reserve. If we went in to find WoMD's why haven't we invaded the country we KNOW has nuclear power and an equally corrupt dictator in North Korea? Just a couple thoughts...
The thing that really gets me is Acting on AIDS. He referred to AIDS as God's divine justice on immorality. That is an interesting point of view. Let's assume for a minute that this might be true. I do not remember a place in scripture that says help those in distress unless it is God's divine justice, then don't help. I am pretty sure in Jesus' day there was another form of "divine justice" called leprosy. I wonder what God's rational for punishing orphans in West Africa is...

Funny how things change...
Funny how things change. Funny how things are always the same. This picture pretty much sums up how a lot of people picture me. They see me as laid back. Just chillin, and usually holding a mountain dew. I'll take it. I don't like it all of the time, but I'll take it. I see myself differently, as I think most people can say. Most people see themselves differently than others see them. I am starting to realize that I might not be as different from other people's perceptions as I wish I was. I am realizing that a laid back personality is only "really sweet" on a Saturday afternoon when there is nothing to do but watch clouds roll by. Dry sarcastic humor is great in the dorm. People do not want that in the "real world." Oh well, take it or leave it, I am who I am. Now I have to go be an accounting tutor to the sweetest accounting student I know.

SHAT
The greatest story of my life took place about a week ago. Jon came up to me and said, "It was the funniest thing ever. Adam had some chineese food and it was bothering him. He hollered across the town house, 'Oh, man, I think I just shat myself' He then went on to describe what may or may not have happened in his pants. Jon then walked over to adam and said, Dude, Ali is down stairs. Amy was really down stairs, so when Adam called out "Ali?" Amy replied and adam was embarassed beyond all belief. Well Adam went down to explain to ali what had happened but he then realized who it was really and proceeded to tickle Jon.
Later that day Adam and Ali were down stairs talking and I convinced Jon to say, "Adam did you clean up that mess you made earlier today?" Adam said, What mess? Jon said, "you know, THE MESS?" When Adam realized what we were referring to he became embarassed and felt the need to explain what happened to Ali. Jon and I listened in and were rolling on the ground kicking our legs in laughter listening in from up stairs. It was great. Just thought you would like that story!
