I watched ________ today
Here is a transcript of a conversation that could happen between any two people at any time.
Person 1: I watched Top Gun this afternoon.
Person 2: Oh, really? What was the occasion? Don't you have that on DVD?
Person 1: Yes, I do have it on DVD, but there was no occasion, it was on TV.
Person 2: Oh, cool!
Why is it that we are willing to watch, or want to watch a movie just because it is on TV? I'm not sure, but I have some ideas.
- We are really lazy. Somehow, we would rather sit through an hour of commercials (many of which are the same) than get up and place the disc in the DVD player.
- Maybe its a movie we don't have? Well, I would argue, there is probably a reason we don't have it. And there is a small chance we would rent or buy it if we had the opportunity.
- There is a community aspect of watching something on TV. If you plop a DVD into a DVD player, it is isolated, solitary. If it is on TV you know you are not the only person watching at that moment. There are people all over the city, even the country that are also watching that movie at that time, maybe even someone you know. Even if you don't consider that fact consciously you feel it subconsciously.
Why do you watch movies because "they're on TV?" What was the last movie you watched strictly because it was on TV.

Running Progress
Here is a quick update on my running progress.
I have logged 894 miles Year to Date (December 3rd). I have only 28 more days left in the year and just over 100 miles to go. I am trying to hit 4 miles each day for the rest of the month. There may be a couple days (days off or weekends) that I could do 2-a-days, but I don't need to at this point. It would only be for cushion and to finish early. Wish me luck!
